New PP Building Needs Your Help!
Rev. Doug Taylor and Libby Anderson from Binghamton's Unitarian Universalist Congregation present a gift towards our new building to PPSCNY CEO Debra Marcus, joined by Board Co-Chair Sondra Pruden, R.N. and Receivables Manager Rachel Light. |
In the fall of 2006, Planned Parenthood of South Central New York, Inc. bought a building at 117 Hawley Street in Binghamton, New York.
We have served the residents of Broome County for nearly seventy years, and throughout that time we have leased space in several locations in downtown Binghamton. As our current lease was coming to an end, and in a fiscally responsible move, the agency found a building that met all our needs. First and foremost, our future site is in a readily accessible location, within walking distance to the high school, on the bus line, and in a much underserved portion of the city.
Secondly, any property purchased would require renovations
to meet the specifications of the New York State Department
of Health, as we are a fully licensed medical facility operating
under state guidelines and regulations. The 117 Hawley Street
property, however, was well suited and readily adaptable to
our needs, requiring only renovations on the third floor which
will house the clinic. Indeed, this is still a large renovation
as it includes the installation of an elevator for handicapped
accessibility. PPSCNY will be taking on a debt slightly in
excess of $1,000,000.00.
Thus, we are soliciting the help of our donors with the cost of renovations and purchase. Over the past several months the Development Department has written grants, and met with individuals, but we have a long way to go. As you consider making a donation to the agency, please consider also making a gift to the building / renovation fund. You can choose to make your gift in the form of a pledge, payable over a term convenient to you. There are also many naming opportunities available, which is a wonderful legacy of your belief and support of the Planned Parenthood mission.
Planned Parenthood of South Central New York is looking forward to the future and to moving to our new facility, but we really need your help. Our purchase of a building is our commitment to the residents of Broome County that we will be here for a long time providing reproductive and basic health care and education to thousands of residents each year. We need you to make your commitment to us to fulfill this promise.
The Development Department is here to assist you in making a gift to this project and would be happy to meet with you to discuss options. Please call 607-723-5130, ext. 216 or e-mail ppscny@ppfa.org.
