Chenango-Area Moms Love PCAP
Planned Parenthood’s Norwich office offers Chenango County’sPrenatal Care Assistance Program (PCAP), which gives income-eligible pregnant women free prenatal care with delivery by obstetricians at Chenango Memorial Hospital. PCAP also offers free pregnancy education, HIV testing and counseling, and help with the applications for Medicaid, WIC and other social services. Since 1991, PCAP in Norwich has helped nearly 2,500 pregnant women deliver healthy babies. We saw an 18% increase in PCAP patients in 2006.
Once the baby is born, PCAP provides health insurance for the baby for up to one year and to the mom for two months. Our PCAP nurse then helps the new mom enroll in FPEP, the Family Planning Extension Program, which offers free birth control and related care for two years and two months after giving birth.
"It's a pleasure to serve the women in our community and help them have healthy pregnancies and babies. They're excited about motherhood and are looking forward to the new changes in their futures," said Marybeth Clark, LPN, Norwich Clinic Manager. "We love the postnatal visit at 8 weeks because we get to meet the healthy babies with their smiling, proud moms."
