Tell us your story!

Please us about your life like before legalized abortion. We are collecting written accounts of life before Roe V. Wade, the landmark Supreme Court case that made abortion legal. Planned Parenthood of South Central New York, Inc. plans to publish a collection of stories, essays, and poems about what women and men endured when an unplanned pregnancy meant disaster. Perhaps you were a doctor or nurse who witnessed the aftermath of “back alley” abortions. Perhaps you were born to parents who had more children than they could raise. Maybe you risked your own life to control your fertility. Maybe you put a child up for adoption. Maybe you waited out an unwanted pregnancy in a home for unwed mothers. Our history is full of fascinating stories. Everyone has a different tale to tell and we want to hear yours. You may keep your work anonymous. Because of space limitations, we are unable to publish every submission in our book, but we also plan to launch a web-based version of the book, and can include all submissions there. We reserve the right to edit your work for accuracy, length, and profanity. Please send your work typed and double spaced to the Director of Public Communications, Planned Parenthood of South Central New York, Inc. 168 Water Street, Binghamton. You may e-mail your submission to ppscny@ppfa.org. For more information, please call 607-723-5130 x232.

Our right to choose is in grave danger. When we look back on how far we’ve come, we must remain steadfast and determined never to give up that right again. Those who remember the past are determined not to repeat it.
